6 Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Parent-Teacher Conference

by | January 30, 2020

Parent-teacher conferences are important and necessary for proper communication about your child’s school performance. Here are 6 tips for getting the most out of them.

1.) Be prepared to listen and take notes. You may need to ask for an explanation if you don’t understand something.

2.) If your child has already received grades, ask how they are being evaluated. Ask the teacher for specific details about your child’s work and how they are progressing.

3.) Talk about your child’s talents, skills, study habits, and any special concerns (such as concern about speech difficulties.)

4.) Tell the teacher if you think your child needs extra help or if there is a special situation that could be impacting your child’s ability to learn. Examples of such situations include a new baby or an upcoming move.

5.) Ask about specific ways to help your child at home.

6.) If the teacher told you that your child needs to improve in certain areas, check back in a few weeks to see how things are going.
